With this initiative, the regional connectivity from Hyderabad airport will increase by 100 per cent and the airport will witness the highest number of weekly frequencies to these targeted cities. Flying from Hyderabad will not only have considerable saving in flying time, but would also be very cost effective for the passengers. Hyderabad airport has world class infrastructure facilities for the aircraft as well as for passengers and is well equipped to handle any additional traffic thereby making it the most the preferred destination for airlines and passengers. We are confident that with this increase in regional connectivity from SpiceJet, Hyderabad will become the most attractive destination for passengers from tier 2 and tier 3 cities to connect with other domestic metros and international destinations. This is also a step further towards our vision of making Hyderabad the gateway of South and Central India”.

Delhi, 11th August, 2011:SpiceJet, India’s most preferred budget airline announces the commencement of its much-anticipated Q-400 operations by opening bookings for the first phase. In this phase, SpiceJet will connect Hyderabad to seven popular Tier II and Tier III destinations – Aurangabad, Bhopal, Indore, Mangalore, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Vijayawada. SpiceJet Q1 Revenues jump 32% over same period last year

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Increases market share to 14% in a difficult operating environment

New Delhi, August 12, 2011: The summer season of FY2012 saw domestic capacity addition grow nearly 5% ahead of the demand growth of around 15%. This sudden spurt in capacity addition combined with irrational competitive pricing by the larger airlines resulted in a challenging operating environment. Additionally, Q1FY12 also saw a steep increase in fuel price over Q1FY11, which made the cost environment adverse. Despite these challenges, SpiceJet increased its domestic market-share from 13% to 14%.

SpiceJet posted a Loss of Rs.72 crores for Q1FY12 and in a challenging cost environment reduced Non-Fuel cost per ASKM by 5% from Rs.1.65 to Rs.1.57. The average passenger yields were higher by 5.5% at Rs. 3663 indicating that SpiceJet was successful in passing on some part of the fuel price increase despite the challenging competitive environment. Seat Factors during the quarter were 78.9%.

Fuel prices during Q1FY12 were 43% higher than same period last year and Fuel Cost constituted 53% of the total costs in Q1FY12 as compared to 36% in Q1FY11 and 42% for the full year FY11.

Highlights for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 vs June 30, 2010
1.Operational

  • 25 % growth in number of passengers.
  • 36.7 % growth of Available Seat Kilometres.
  • 40 % growth in number of departures.

2.Financial

  • 32% increase in Revenue from Operations.
  • 5.5% increase in passenger yields to Rs.3,663 from Rs.3,472.
  • EBIDTAR margin at 7%.
  • Net loss of Rs.72 crores for the quarter compared to a Net profit of Rs.55 crores

Neil Mills, Chief Executive Officer, said, “During these three months we have firmed up our future expansion plans and have been preparing the ground for the rapid expansion planned over the next 3 years. We have recently received requisite approvals for the import of Bombardier Q-400 aircraft backed by financing from Export Credit of Canada. With this we are glad to announce that we have today opened our bookings for our Q400 operations. We will be connecting Hyderabad to Aurangabad, Bhopal, Indore, Mangalore, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, and Vijayawada. We are very happy to be entering this new phase of growth by promoting much needed air connectivity to Tier-II and Tier-II towns, which we believe holds the future of the aviation industry in the country.”

Business Update for April – June 2011

Domestic traffic grew at 15% during the quarter over the same period previous year and continued to show increasing inclination towards the low-cost carriers. The market share of LCC’s increased from 42.6% to 47.6% during this period. However, yields remained under severe pressure due to an irrational pricing environment that prevailed in the market, thereby undermining the airline’s ability to pass on the impact of the higher fuel price to the passenger in a growing market.

SpiceJet outperformed the broad industry yet again with a 25% growth in passenger traffic. It also improved its market share from 13.0% to 14.0% during the same period in the previous year.

Friday, May 27th, 2011

New Delhi, May 27, 2011

SpiceJet, India’s most preferred low-cost carrier, continued to outperform the industry by announcing a second straight year of profitable operations. SpiceJet declared an annual profit of Rs. 101.2 crores during FY 2010-11 against a profit of Rs. 61.5 crores during the previous financial year.

Reflecting the robust growth in domestic passenger traffic, Spicejet, in FY 2010-11, saw a 30% increase in traffic whereas the total domestic air traffic increased only by 19%. This clearly indicates customer preference for the reliability and value proposition offered by Spicejet. The quarterly load factors touched 80% during the Jan-Mar ’11 quarter and the airline closed the year with a domestic market-share of 13.6%.

This profit growth is despite a significant rise in fuel costs and a very challenging pricing environment in the Jan-Mar quarter.

  • 110 basis point improvement in load factor.

SpiceJet’s market share increased to 13.3% in FY 10-11 as compared to 12.3% during FY’09-10. Domestic traffic during the year grew by 19% – significantly ahead of the industry forecast. SpiceJet expects the demand scenario to continue to remain robust and expects a 14-16% domestic demand growth during FY’11-12.

SpiceJet reached several important milestones during FY ’10-11. One of the most significant achievements was the successful completion of five years of domestic operation in May 2010, making it eligible to fly on international routes. The airline commenced its flights to Kathmandu and Colombo in October 2010. On the domestic front, SpiceJet added two new destinations – Agartala and Madurai – on their network.

Neil Mills, Chief Executive Officer of SpiceJet said, “We are very pleased that we have continued to grow and remain profitable despite the challenges such as escalating ATF prices and significant yield pressures during the Jan-Mar quarter. Our robust business model and focus on operational efficiencies has been instrumental in ensuring that we continue to outpace the industry. We are now in a phase of rapid expansion and are looking at an aggressive addition to our fleet in the next few years. The most interesting development will be the start of our Q400 turbo-prop operations which is currently planned for the month of July and we are confident that this will take us to the next level of growth.”

In line with the SpiceJet Chairman, Mr. Kalanithi Maran’s, vision of strengthening domestic connectivity to Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns, SpiceJet announced their order of 30 Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft from Bombardier Inc. of Canada in Sep ’10. Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) will be the first base for SpiceJet’s turbo-prop operations and that are expected to begin in July 2011.

SpiceJet plans to add 7 Boeing 737 aircraft during this year, to its operational fleet of 25 aircraft, to capitalize on the expected domestic demand growth. SpiceJet also plans to scale up its international operations by commencing services to destinations in South Asia and the Middle-East. The airline plans to have around 70 aircraft in its fleet by 2013 including the Q400 Bombardier aircraft.
