SpiceJet storms into 7th REEBOK CUP Final
New Delhi, April 7, 2007:SpiceJet defeated Delhi High court in a closely fought match on Friday, April 6th by 2 runs to enter the 7th Reebok cup final. SpiceJet made 184 for 9 in allotted 25 overs. Kapil Mehta of SpiceJet played a cracking knock of 80 in just 60 balls to romp his team to victory.
SpiceJet won the toss and elected to bat first. The hit pair of Sumit and Anoop started the same smashing way as they did in their last 3 partnerships. Sumit got out attempting to hit, dancing down the wicket. Anoop was not distracted with the proceedings at the other end and smashed the ball all over the park. He got out after he had made 45 of just 28 balls which included 7 fours and a huge 6. Kapil played sensibly but wickets kept on falling on the other end but with small partnerships.
Jagpreet provided the early breakthrough. Taking the advantage of some poor fielding and catching by SpiceJet, DHC no. 1 & 3 batsman smashed SpiceJet bowlers all round the park. Bhupender then struck in the 8th over when DHC were going at 9 r.p.o. DHC no. 3 & 4 steadied the innings and made sure that they don’t loose any quick wickets but maintained the requi#B50229 run rate. Subhash then provided the breakthrough in the 17th over – his 1st. DHC were cruising towards the target when Kapil came back for his 2nd spell in the 19th over after a very tight first spell. His 2nd spell brought some hope back especially the 23rd over wherein he took 3 wickets. A rejuvenate SpiceJet Team bowled excellent last 6 over with great fielding specially by Jagpreet and Naresh. Between all swing of the bat, 12 runs requi#B50229 in the last over and 4 in the last ball. Bhupender kept his nerve and SpiceJet won by 2 runs.
Kapil Mehta remained the star of the show for the 6th consecutive time in the Reebok Cup and was awarded the Man of the Match for his all round performance.
