Low fare airlines eye ancillary services
Indian low fare carriers like SpiceJet is looking to make an easy extra buck by starting ancillary services. Tying up with hotels and in-flight advertising are the focus areas right now. Indian low fare carriers like SpiceJet, Air Deccan and GoAir are looking to make an easy extra buck by starting ancillary services like hotel bookings, selling on flight insurance, and advertising space.
Currently, Indian no frills airlines earn an average about 5-6 per cent of their revenue from these activities compared to 17-18 per cent earned by international carriers like Easy Jet. Carriers like SpiceJet hope to increase that to 15-20 per cent by the end of next year.
Services like in-flight booking, catering and car rentals have been in operation for a while now, but carriers like GoAir and Kingfisher Airlines are thinking out of the box. They have started selling advertisement space on lockers and trays inside the aircraft, besides selling insurance and providing hotels to passengers.

DO NOT TRUST SPICEJET, this website may appear professional but from my experience with the company they are anything but what they make out to be. I fly with Ryan Air regularly and understand budget air travel; I do not expect the world from the cheap flights. However I expect to be treated in a human way, “not like sheep” as quoted from their website. They often cancel flights if they do not have enough passengers, delay others for hours, 3 hours in my case. They also do not have enough rights to land at their destinations if the airport is busy, my flight had to circle Delhi before we then had to divert to Jaipur as we were running out of fuel. We were kept on the plane for 4 hours 45 minutes with no food or drink given when the flight was supposed to take just over an hour!
The flight attendants were very poor at telling us what was going on and down right rude. When we enquired about compensation, if only for the reimbursement of our flight they only had female employees with no authority at their stand who simply said “no compensation”.
The service provided and the company’s policies are well below satisfactory, and would simply not be allowed to go on in any other country were the government and regulation bodies would take action upon this incompetent airline. Spicejet do not have a complaints procedure for the reason they do not care about their customers, I filled in a complaints form at the airport and have not heard anything since. Please tell all travelers never to choose Spicejet, this is the only way I can see that my complaints will get anywhere, by word of mouth. Instead pay a tiny bit extra and use the other budget airlines such as Kingfisher and Indigo, which have a far better reputation.

My experience with spicejet is not so good. I lodged a complaint more than an year back. They have not yet reverted on the same. Noone from the customer relation id responds and phone no. are just to listen the “Spicejet Song”
