SpiceJet Confirms Order for More Boeing 737s Including 737-900ERs

SINGAPORE, Feb. 21, 2006 — The New Delhi-based no-frill airlines SpiceJet has announced that it will exercise options for 10 Next-Generation 737s, including five 737-800s and five 737-900ERs, and has secured 10 additional options.

“I think the new planes will give us better options to formulate competitive price strategies. It will also stimulate market due to better pricing and enable us to fulfill our goal of ensuring every Indian fly,” said Mr. Ajay Singh Director SpiceJet.

Dinesh Keskar, Vice President of Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes said that “SpiceJet follows a very established and successful low-cost model in India. And the airline operates on a very high load factor; highest in the Indian aviation market. Therefore, we are thrilled that this outstanding customer is reaffirming its commitment to the Next-Generation 737 family by finalizing this agreement,”

This will be the first time SpiceJet will be ordering 737-900 aircraft. The 737-900ER offers nine percent lower operating costs per trip and seven percent lower operating costs per seat than its competitors. The Boeing 737-900 will be ordered in a single economy class configuration. The aircraft will be deployed on high-capacity trunk routes like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Bangalore.
